In the last two weeks I have completed the badges 5:Social Media #1 and 6:Digital Security and whilst completing these badges I had previously spent some time reviewing my Facebook settings. Most of my profile is locked down so that only friends can see what I post. The only thing that anyone can see when they log onto my page are my profile and cover photo. Each time when I renew a new cover or profile picture I always go into settings and then mark the previous picture as friends only. This way I can control exactly who sees my pictures and when. My blogs on these two badges can be found here: https://sssc23challenge.blogspot.com/2019/11/5social-media-1.html https://sssc23challenge.blogspot.com/2019/11/6digital-security.html As instructed I  downloaded the sample page for Sarah Smith at  http://23digital.sssc.uk.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Sarah-Smith-Social-Media-Profile.pdf and lets just say I am glad this person is fictional if she was working in social care

7. Finding Resources

Image
To cover all the criteria to achieve the SSSC 7:Finding resources badge I had to explore the online digital library provided for the social service workforce in Scotland by NHS Education for Scotland at http://www.ssks.org.uk/ . To gain full access to the site I had to register for my own account at https://www.athensregistration.scot.nhs.uk/ . I filled in all my details to open my  account on the 19th of November and the next day I was sent a verification code. However this code didn't work and I had to send an email to receive another verification code this time it worked and I got logged in easily. By the 21st of November I had full access. On this day I used SSKS to search for appropriate articles on cerebral palsy in children. SSKS library function allowed me to alter my search between eBooks and ejournals which made finding resources easier. I also used google to search for some articles, however on using this I found there were too many results. So I then used goo

Passwords are the bane of my life. I swear I am thee worst person at remembering them. I think I'm doing well having a different password for every platform I use but quite a lot of the time I have to send the dreaded forgot password request. I think to myself if I don't know the password how can hackers know it ? I know they can though as unfortunately I have had my credit card details taken from a site I used online and someone booked a nice holiday on it. Luckily though we always check our balance so it was caught quickly. I get frustrated when I have to go through the dreaded verification procedures when I forget my passwords but I know its worthwhile in the end.  So how can I get better at remembering passwords?  Well firstly I checked that none of my passwords were on the list at  https://s13639.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Top-100-Worst-Passwords-of-2017a.pdf . All clear, ✔️ passed that first challenge. Then I tried my passwords in  https://howse

5.Social Media #1

Image
At  work these last few weeks we have been reviewing and updating some of our policies. One of the policies that we have been reviewing is our social media policy. I am very familiar with this policy as I use social media a lot at home. I can understand the need for companies to have these guidelines/policies so that staff know what is regarded as acceptable behaviour both professionally and personally on social media sites. Also each individual in social care has a  responsibility to keep to the Codes of Practice for their registration with their own professional registration.  As a Early Years Practitioner my government body is SSSC and I need to behave in an appropriate manner which is consistent with my membership of this professional body. Part of SSSC codes of practice states that I must not : 5.8  Behave, while in or outside work, in a way which would bring my suitability to work in social services into question. This is also the extract that my company puts into t

4.Digital Footprint

I am aware that what I put on the web has implications within my role as an Early Years Practitioner and it could cause embarrassment to not only myself but also for the establishment that I work for. I do not publish were I work as this is part of my works social network policy but friends on my Facebook and Instagram know where I work. Although I use these apps to express my personal beliefs the line could get blurry if anyone thought it was coming from a professional stand. Therefore I do not post things related to how I felt at work that day, political views or anything that I feel would offend anyone. Mostly I post granddaughter pictures and holiday snaps and have all the privacy settings set as friends only. After watching Oranges Digital Dirt video clip at  https://youtu.be/JJfw3xt4emY it reinforced why I would think twice before posting anything and why I scrutinize all pictures before posting them. I g

3.Why Digital

Image
After looking at the Skills for care infographic I thought of how I use ICT in my workplace and at home. I thought of  how I felt my computer skills and capabilities matched up with the results percentages in the infographic . Some of the things I looked at on the survey were what was my  perception of my skills, what I use technology for and what stops me using technology in the workplace.  The results on the survey were as follows : perception of skills 90% of staff were confident in their own basic skills with 52% of managers feeling staff did not having sufficient skills. Looking at my digital skills I do not feel competent ,I would have to put myself in the 10% bracket and say I am learning a bit at a time. My manager would agree with me as we have had this discussion at a recent PPDS meeting. This is why I am doing the SSSC Digital badges so that I can build confidence and be more competent at developing ICT things at work. At home I use a mobile phone for ca

2.Open Badges SSSC2 Things Digital

Image
So todays challenge is to write a blog post reflecting my thoughts regarding Open Badges and their potential as a way of demonstrating professional development. Here goes : As stated  in my first blog https://sssc23challenge.blogspot.com/2019/10/my-first-blog-sssc23-digital-challenge.html I am taking part in the SSSC badges to help me further my knowledge  and understanding on how the digital world works. By doing the 23 Things Digital  badges I am developing my skills by  working on real problems that I have (I am a computer amateur) and whilst I am doing the badges I am challenging myself as I am no longer in my comfort zone.I am having to think of new ways to respond to people and not face to face which I am more comfortable with. Completing the badges will help me plug the gaps in my computer skills and as I complete more badges I will have a portfolio of how far I have come since starting with the SSSC23 Digital badges. This will improve my job performance as I am keep
