2.Open Badges SSSC2 Things Digital

So todays challenge is to write a blog post reflecting my thoughts regarding Open Badges and their potential as a way of demonstrating professional development.


Here goes :

As stated  in my first blog https://sssc23challenge.blogspot.com/2019/10/my-first-blog-sssc23-digital-challenge.html I am taking part in the SSSC badges to help me further my knowledge  and understanding on how the digital world works. By doing the 23 Things Digital  badges I am developing my skills by  working on real problems that I have (I am a computer amateur) and whilst I am doing the badges I am challenging myself as I am no longer in my comfort zone.I am having to think of new ways to respond to people and not face to face which I am more comfortable with. Completing the badges will help me plug the gaps in my computer skills and as I complete more badges I will have a portfolio of how far I have come since starting with the SSSC23 Digital badges. This will improve my job performance as I am keeping up with technology, improve my computer skills by putting them into practice both at home and at work. I will be developing my relationship with my manager as she can assess and provide feedback on my learning as well as give support to me if I need it. Whilst completing the tasks I am reflecting on my learning  and understanding new ways  to apply these new skills in the workplace so I feel that the badges are very worthwhile in doing .I gain certificates to link all the assessment evidence together and this would help me both in the job I am presently doing or in a possible career change.

So what is an Open Educational Resource, an OER for short? A OER is a way to allow wide range access to a range of digital education materials that are free of restrictions such as copyright. Anyone can copy, use, adapt and re-share them. By using OERs you can adapt them to be relevant to your place of work or to the place you plan to use it. At  work these last few weeks we have been reviewing and updating some of our policies.One of the policies that we have been reviewing is our social media policy. I am very familiar with this policy as I use social media a lot at home. I can understand the need for companies to have these guidelines/policies so that staff know what is regarded as acceptable behaviour both professionally and personally on social media sites. Also each individual in social care has a  responsibility to keep to the Codes of Practice for their registration with their own professional registration.  As a Early Years Practitioner my government body is SSSC and I need to behave in an appropriate manner which is consistent with my membership of this professional body. 11.Twitter

To complete Thing 11 on using Twitter I chose to work my way through the Intermediate level as I have been accessing this platform using my personal account for a few years. I have had a twitter account for many years although I don't access it on a regular basis. I follow actors, music and local events on it. I didn't use it for any work related matters. I was however aware that it can be used for this and I knew that lots of schools and establishments have accounts to promote what they are about.  My workplace have their own account that can be found here : https://twitter.com/Craighalbert this is a relatively new account and it is being used to promote the fundraising for the centre and to let others see what happens within the centre.
