17:Open Educational Resources

So what is an Open Educational Resource, an OER for short? A OER is a way to allow wide range access to a range of digital education materials that are free of restrictions such as copyright. Anyone can copy, use, adapt and re-share them.
By using OERs you can adapt them to be relevant to your place of work or to the place you plan to use it. It saves time as the work has already been done for you. Most places only require you to give appropriate credit and that if you do change anything that you let them know. Such as when using the SSSC OER they ask that you give credit, provide a link and indicate any changes made.

I have used some OERs in my workplace such as from the https://open.ed.ac.uk/edinburghs-oers/ were I used https://www.open.edu/openlearn/nature-environment/natural-history/ispot-sharing-nature/content-section-0?active-tab=description-tab to help me find ways that the children at my centre could record and measure the biodiversity within our school grounds.

I have explored https://lms.learn.sssc.uk.com/course/index.php?categoryid=1.The link that the SSSC badges has on it is a broken link https://lms.learn.sssc.uk.com/course/view48db.html?id=58 but I now know how to navigate to find the pages I am looking for.
One of the courses that I feel will be interesting and relevant to my practice is https://learn.sssc.uk.com/apps/development/ and I plan to complete this in the next few months. With the current climate the way it is with Covid 19 I have been doing a lot of OERs online either through doing whole certificated courses such as How to be an Eco Schools coordinator that I found on the Keep Britain Tidy webpage. I only had to register for a moodle account, to just watching various presentations online. The advantages of having these courses online are that I can work from home developing my skills whilst still preparing for the new term for the children.

There are so many formats online the hardest part for me is to pick what is the priority to help me to develop my current  practice. I could have a list of training I could do as there is so much available. Another advantage is they are free and easy to share.
